Human Right League requires investigation on prisoners’ torture case
El Khabar, 4 mars 2008
The president of Human Right National League has stressed that detainees in cell 1 and 2 in El Harrach prison were in fact subject to torture last week while shouldering responsibility to the prison direction.
Mr. Mustapha Bouchachi has denied the content of the communiqué released by the General Prisons Direction on the issue of torture practiced against detainees in El Harrach prison, which the Human Right League has already denounced through a communiqué published in El Khabar.
Mr. Mustapha Bouchachi has reiterated, in a press conference held yesterday and attended by the honorary president of Human Right National League Mr. Yahia Abdenour, the content of the sympathizing communiqué with prisoners of special cases in cell 1 and 2.
He said: “the detainees affirmed being asked to leave their cells and when they came back they had found out that the prison direction has suspended the praying place inside their cells and put instead additional beds, but prisoners rejected to enter their cells as protest.”
However, Mr. Yahia Abdenour wondered why judicial authorities have not opened yet an investigation on this “serious” issue, pointing out that “guards had forced prisoners entering their cells undressing and hitting them while breaking bones to some of them.”
