El Khabar, 20 september 2008

Prime Minister, Ahmed Ouyahia has charged unidentified parties of plotting a popular uprising against him, similar to 5 October 1988 events, during this summer. Ouyahia assumed: “fortunately, the people have foiled it.” He further warned from the demise of the financial affluence, in case oil prices dropped down to 70 USD a barrel.

Prime Minister has preferred answering journalist questions in the press conference he held as a Prime Minister and the leader of RND party. He has met media representatives, on the occasion of the closing day of the first national meeting after the third congress. Ouyahia seemed like giving the kick start of the race for the Presidency, while calling on potential nominees to compete honestly and fairly. He further gave the impression of supporting President Bouteflika for a third mandate, pointing out that the review of the Constitution is imminent, and surely before next March. The leader of RND party said President Bouteflika will win a third mandate easily. In this context, he defended the President’s policy outcome, saying it has been positive comparing to the situation of Algeria before Bouteflika comes to power. On another side, Ahmed Ouyahia has charged unidentified people or parties of plotting a popular uprising in the street against him, on the pretext that he is an unpopular official, mostly because he is the mastermind of many tax-increase plans. He further assumed: “the people foiled the plot as they rejected being involved in it.”
