Human rights report not reflecting real situation in Algeria say human rights leagues
El Khabar, 17 April 2008
The response of Algeria, to UN Human Rights Council, has not reflected the human rights situation in Algeria, said Mr. Mustapha Bouchachi, Chairman of the Algerian league for human rights defence. While the Professor Boudjema Ghachir, has indicated that the regime exhibits another image of human rights situation.
In his turn, yesterday the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mourad Medelci, speaking at a UN Human Rights Council meeting, has announced that the state of emergency will be lifted once terrorism will be completely eliminated. “The political rights are severely restricted, and recurrent branded cause is the state of emergency,” the Algerian league for human rights, told El Khabar in a phone call “ the league has received several people complaining from torture,” adding that the league he chairs is very concerned about “torture in prisons”.
He further indicated that the economical and social rights are more violated, justifying this with the illegal migration phenomenon, and the recently anti-riots police forces preventing independent human rights representatives from rallying near Government headquarters. urthermore, the spokeswoman of missing people’ families, Mrs. Nacira Ditour, said the Algerian response to the international community about human rights concerns in Algeria, has been insufficient.
