Egyptian agents who ill-treated 3 Algerians to be chastised: says Ambassador
Ec-Chorouk, January 27, 2008
The Algerian Ambassador posted in Egypt Abdelkader Hadjar has declared that those Egyptian intelligence agents, involved recently in the obnoxious ill-treatment of 3 peaceable Algerian teachers in Cairo, should be held to account and severely punished for their reprovable misdeed.
Mr Hadjar said in a statement to Echorouk newspaper from Cairo that he had already got into contact with the relevant Egyptian authorities to express Algeria’s utter indignation at such blameworthy practices on the part of some members of the Egyptian security services.
The Algerian Ambassador underlined, in this respect, that the Egyptian side should have notified the Algerian diplomatic representation in Cairo, once the 3 Algerians were arrested, in order to ward off any misunderstanding or recrimination in line with common diplomatic regulations.
Mr Hadjar also asserted that the Egyptian security services should have alerted the Algerian Embassy about the arrests, even if the 3 Algerians were rounded up on suspicion of terrorist activities, in accordance with a clear-cut and binding convention on the matter signed by all Arab countries.
