The oil incomes gathered by Algeria in the 90’s, have not been as able as to lay down a strong security strategy, but only tracking down the terrorist groups. However, the improvement of the security situation, the economy boost and the increasing oil incomes have permitted the Government reviewing the means allocated to the security.
In this regard, the figures showed by the report of the sharing of the sectors’ budget of 2009, demonstrated that the regime is intending to adopt a new security strategy. The budget of the Defence Ministry, will reach 383 billions AD, or $6.25 billions, while the Interior Ministry is to achieve 368 billions AD, an equivalent of $6 billions.
Such a budget represents 15% of 2009 global budget, which is estimated at $80 billions.
The assessment conducted during the last 2 years by the Government, has shown that the security situation, including counterterrorism, the borders guard, and the drug trafficking fighting, is the main priorities of the Government, for the post-terrorism era.
