El Khabar, 27 september 2008
The units of the National Army and Homeland Security, DGSN have been reinforced in view of countering terrorism, reaching professionalism security system to counter criminality. The Army and the DGSN opened the door for recruiting more skilled elements during the recent years.
However, the Army and Police have become the most attractive sectors for youngsters with either middle or high qualifications, noting that President Bouteflika has set a scheme targeting at promoting the Army and making of it more professional and backed up with high tech means.
It is worth to mention that youngsters have showed, during the recent years, a great interest to make a career in the police; and more than this, a police career has become beyond reach and a dream for many people, contrary to the nineties when youngsters used to avoid joining it regarding the critical security situation and the assassination of hundreds of policemen.
However, the security services tend to increase their human capacities nationwide, to counter the new attack methods adopted by terrorists. In this context the Chief of DGSN, Colonel Ali Tounsi disclosed that his services target increasing its human capacities to reach 200 thousand policemen by 2009. This number has never been reached by any sector in Algeria, so far.
