NO AFRICOM headquarters in African countries, according to US ambassador

Talking the floor in front of journalists, top officials and military representatives in a series of conferences held last week in Rabat, Algiers and Tunis, the US ambassador and deputy to the Commander for Civil-Military Activities United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), Mary Carlin Yates, denied any US plan to set up military basses in Africa.
« We don’t have any ambitions to establish new military bases in Africa or set up garrisons on the African continent » the ambassador Yates stated… » We didn’t carry discussions with any Maghreban country concerning the setting up a US-Africa Command headquarters on their soils » she added.
To help Africa facing its problems has always been a top priority for the US. AFRICOM will , in this respect , an important means to put in practice this commitment and will assist the African countries strengthen their governance and achieve their goals in terms of economic prospects.
The main task of AFRICOM is to create a solid partnership between US military forces and various African countries , in order to help them face multifaceted problems in conjunction with political unrest, terrorism, human rights abuse and international criminality .
