Sonatrach and Gaz de France to conquer the US gas market
El Khabar, 15 december 2007
The joint venture company Med LNG & GAS that state owned company Sonatrach and the French Gaz de France Company created in 2001 is to focus on exporting the Algerian gas towards the US market, which is one of the largest markets worldwide, a source close to energy sector said. The two companies have already agreed to extend gas export toward France until 2019 instead of 2013.
Exporting gas towards the US market constitutes an important deal for Med LNG regarding the largeness of the US market. That new venture project falls within the series of agreements sealed between Sonatrach and Gaz de France, including extending Algerian gas export to France as well as the participation of Gaz de France in some projects here in Algeria.
Med LNG & GAS targets facilitating marketing the Algerian gas in Europe as well as projecting gas exportation to the United States. To recall Sonatrach has already sealed strategic partnership agreements with several global gas companies like the Norwegian Statoil, the UK British Petroleum and British Gas and the Italian gas group ENI. The aforementioned agreements allowed Sonatrach launching many partnership projects in many regions worldwide.
