The nightmare of Algerians arrested in Italy for terrorism charges

El Khabar,3 mai 2007

Algerian detainees imprisoned in Italy expressed, in a letter signed by F. Keaâd, their refusal as regards Italian bargain to extradite them towards Algeria, after a stay that lasted two years in the prison for lifting terrorism charges on them and replace them by support to a terrorist organization. This has been considered by prisoners as an offence to their dignity especially that there is no ground for evidence.

The letter signed by F. Keaâd, arrested since a year, together with his brother’s friend and other Algerians relates the story of eight Algerians arrested for alleged affiliation to the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat –GSPC-.

Keaâd revealed that the republic prosecutor in charge of the dossiers has suggested to lift dismiss the main accusation namely the belonging to GSPC provided that the detainees recognize the moral support to terrorist groups “who we don’t know”, according to F. Keaâd. On another side, he stated “we accept the 2-year prison verdict if only we have guarantees to be extradited towards Algeria the same day”.

On another side, F. Keaâd came back to the quintessence of interrogations against him, K. Serai, A. Touati and his brother N. Keaâd, stating that investigations have been grounded on 40 phone communication, and relied in most of the investigations on a translator from Lebanon who does not master the Algerian dialect.
