Ouyahia added/ “I had the chance to express my wishes to the president of full health and full success in his leadership that will always have my backing”
On his side, Belkhadem after he has been charged with the government: “the president honoured me by appointing me at the head of the government that will be formed in the coming days, as I feel honoured by this mission, I also think that the mission is heavy because I will finish a mission that my brothers have already started”. Belkhadem said that he will start consultations to form the government.
Ouyahia resignation and the designation of Belkhadem came after 10 days speculations. Rumours spread that Ouyahia is going because of sudden change in his relations with the president. The absence of the president of the government lately in the official activities was a strong signal of his resignation from his post after he took it from Benflis in 2003.

Belkhadem-Ouyahia clash takes end
The FLN takes back the head of government
El Khabar, 25 May 2006
The Algerian front for Liberation FLN, after a year and a half of its continued pressures on the president Bouteflika, was able to materialise the demand of his congress that was held in January 2005, and in which they have decided to recuperate the presidency of the government and have it back in the old party. With the designation of Belkhadem as a successor of Ahmed Ouyahia and the forming of the government, the FLN have won a fight, but the on-ground fight is yet to be won.
The fight wasn’t that easy for the FLN to cross-double Ouyahia and expulsing him from the government castle, considering that the war triggered by the FLIN against him is not from the last rain, but it started after the inclusive congress that was held in January 2005, where efficient wings in the ex-central committee lobbied to have the first ministry suitcase from the national democratic gathering RND.
Belkhadem, that day, declared that his party is better than anyone else for the leadership pf the reconciliation. From then, the war kept ignited between the brothers-enemies, this situation was on no-war-no-peace basis between the two parties, and this till the explosion of the situation by the alteration of the constitution where Ouyahia opposed it, not only as the general secretary of the RND , but also as the Chief of government.
And with a not-ruled-out backing of the president of the republic, the FLN showed its “plan” to weaken the president of the government where it used heavy offences like the mobilisation of the parliament that owned the majority of it, in order to shake up the dirty job man, and than the description of the FLN group of the outcome of its government as a “failure”. And with the declaration of the president of the National Popular Assembly, Amar Saidani, that he doesn’t see the necessity of the Chief of government coming down to the parliament and this means that he is to go.
The leadership of the FLN didn’t stop there, but it seduced its partner in the presidential coalition the movement for society and peace into backing it to remove Ouyahia, and also concerning the movement of Djaballah that joined the front of the opposition for internal causes.
The siege forced against Ouyahia made him stop his activities on the 10th of May that coincided the last meeting of the government council.
That was 14h30 when Ouyahia left his office to declare in front of cameras to declare his resignation, than on 15h30 Abdelaziz Belkhadem declared that he was assigned to form a new government by the president of the republic. Knowing that the programme of Belkhadem’s government is the same with the president programme that was being made into practice, the presentation of this programme in front of the parliament won’t take long.
