10 Algerians to be extradited from Guantanamo Bay soon

El Khabar, 4 september 2008

The United States has given up imposing conditions in exchange of extraditing Algerians detained in Guantanamo prison, an official judicial source told El Khabar. The same source further added that Algeria expects extraditing 10 prisoners before the end of this year.
However, the majority of Algerians having been extradited so far from Guantanamo or other countries, where they used to serve prison for terror cases, are facing charges of belonging to terror groups abroad by the Algerian Justice. Some of them have been extradited from Britain and Pakistan, while two men from Guantanamo. Generally, those people are subject to legal prosecution and custody pending trial, except two former Guantanamo prisoners, namely Mustapha Hamlili and Sofiane Harderbache. They are subject to judicial control.
The same source indicated that Hamlili and Haderbache, as well as Abdelah Faghouli and Abdelkader Terrari, who left Guantanamo last week and subject currently to cross examinations in Algeria, are all included in the list of the 10 prisoners to be released before 2009.
